POSITION: Academic Intervention Specialist – Student Success Center

LOCATIONS: Weaver High School

REPORTS TO: Chief of Academics or Designee

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: This program-based position will be part of a collaborative Student Success Center (SSC) Team that will engage in person-centered planning approach to student success through credit-recovery. As part of the SSC team the Academic Intervention Specialist will ensure students are able to access and benefit from educational opportunities by considering the unique needs of each student in the interest of creative problem-solving to remove barriers to school engagement, identify targeted academic interventions, services and supports.

The Academic Intervention Specialist will operate and supervise the credit-recovery learning lab and provide individualized instructional support for students enrolled in credit recovery and monitor the progress towards graduation student milestones. The Academic Intervention Specialist will utilize dropout prevention research to support the development and implementation of Individual Learning Plans/Student Success Plans for students serviced by the centers. The Academic Intervention Specialist will provide academic support to students enrolled in on-line career and technical education elective courses as they work towards industry certification.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Develop daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly work schedules based upon established priorities that maximize services to students

·        Maintain accurate data, records, and student files to document all activities conducted and services provided.

·        Provide weekly reviews and ongoing monitoring of all Individual Learning Plans

·        Collect, analyze, and fully utilize data to monitor and evaluate student growth and effectiveness of Individual Student Plans

·        Consult and coordinate, as appropriate, with in-district professionals (i.e. School Counselor, Special Education Supervisor, Social Workers, etc.)

·        Participate actively and effectively in the development of Individual Learning Plans/Student Success Plans for at- risk students serviced by the SSC

·        Participate in the development of instructional materials as warranted

·        Use technology blended with individualized instruction to actively engage students with teaching and learning

·        Work within the scope of Board policy and school procedures

·        Meet professional responsibilities and expectations

·        Perform any other related duties assigned by the Chief of Academics

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

·        Master’s degree in education or a Master of Arts in Teaching is required

·       Minimum of (five) 5 years’ teaching experience

·        Demonstrated ability to work effectively with at-risk high school students

·        Demonstrated knowledge and skill in research based instructional techniques that lead to increased student learning

·        In-depth and demonstrated knowledge of dropout prevention research and the ability to implement recommendations

·        Effective organizational skills with regard to the utilization of time, space, materials and equipment for instruction

·        Effective verbal and written communication skills

·        Demonstrated knowledge and skill in planning lessons and the use of alternate teaching strategies (i.e. Differentiated Instruction, Blended Learning, etc.) to maximize student learning

·        Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the evaluation of student learning

·        Knowledge of the foundation principles of instructional technology

·        Cultural competency; appreciation, embracing, and valuing of diversity

·        Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and independent decision-making skills

·        Ability to function as a team player and to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a shared-decision-making environment

·        Capability to function as an independent, self-motivated, and self-reliant self-starter who initiates appropriate actions and strategies and can work successfully without constant direction and close supervision

·        Demonstrated knowledge and skill in classroom management

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Must possess and maintain the certification requirements for appropriate grade levels (9-12) as established by Connecticut State Statutes

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Pay will be commensurate with experience, educational level and in accordance with the Hartford Public School System’s salary schedule as outlined in the current HFT Local No. 1018 contract, $47,464 - $106,672. (Appendix E). Extended Day 6.7% (8 Hour Day) and Extended Year 16% (25 Additional Work Days). A flexible work schedule is required.
