This millwright apprentice position is exclusively open to candidates who have completed their millwright education and are actively seeking practical experience as apprentices. Only such candidates are encouraged to apply.
On the job training to learn to troubleshoot, repair and maintain all mechanical related functions, equipment, systems, buildings and/or physical structures in a manner that allows the plant to operate effectively and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following job functions are to be performed in accordance with the spirit and philosophy contained within the Operating Policy and in accordance with Company Policy:
Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements Take required Apprenticeship Classes and do on the job training to learn the following:
Perform mechanical preventative maintenance according to an established schedule on all required equipment. Inspect machinery and lubricate, make adjustments or repairs as needed and take faulty equipment out of operation until repaired.
Effectively troubleshoot all mechanical equipment to identify issues within the plant and take necessary corrective actions to repair, replace or rebuild.
Continuously work in a safe manner and report all safety hazards.
Work with Journeyman Mechanics to help them develop their required skills to complete Apprenticeship program.
Reads, interprets and follows blueprints and sketches, making all measurements and calculations necessary to complete the job.
Makes out work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution, material usage, etc., and performs other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed.
Receive guidance from journeymen as well as feedback on standing in the JAC apprenticeship process.
Demonstrate proficiency in typical mechanical assignments.
Maintain an open and candid working relationship with immediate supervisor/manager discussing all matters of importance. Apprentice will be required to wear a radio for communication purposes Perform other job functions as requested to support the effective and efficient operation of the plant, including duties of lower classifications. Housekeeping responsibilities. Ability to work any shift, swing shift, work holidays and weekends, and work overtime. Uses safe work practices and reports hazardous conditions. Follow safety guidelines in the defiance complex. Wear proper PPE. Follow all general shop rules for defiance complex. Cleanup your work area (unit). Attend all monthly safety meetings. Complete safety/beware audits on a monthly basis. Complete computer based training and all other programs needed to stay in compliance with company policy’s

JOB LOCATION:
The majority of the responsibilities for this job are performed on the production plant floor. Conditions are often hot, with temperatures ranging from 50-105 degrees. The environment may be dirty from oils/grease, and may be noisy from the machinery. Required personal protective equipment must be worn at all times.
EQUIPMENT: Reference texts and manuals
- Uses hand and power tools of all kinds and a variety of measuring and testing instruments.
- Material Handling Equipment (i.e. Fork lift, Power Scaffold)
- Electric and electronic measuring and test equipment (i.e. micrometers, calipers, voltage meters, comparator indicators)
- General office equipment (computer, fax machine, copier)
BACKGROUND/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (i.e. high school diploma, degree, specialized knowledge, roles, skills and/or expertise)
- High School diploma or GED
- Complete Apprenticeship program with five years to become a Journeyman Mechanic
- Flexibility in work hours and assignments
