Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Materials Separations Expert to work in our Chemical Separations department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position. You will report to the Department Manager.

You will provide technical, strategic, and human capital leadership for the Chemical Separations Group within the Materials Separations and Analysis Department of the Energy, Environment, Science & Technology (EES&T) Directorate at INL. This group oversees and leads nationally recognized research, development, and deployment (RD&D) of technologies focused on separations for energy critical materials.

Responsibilities Include:

You will:

1) Coach junior staff members in the separations group.

2) Conduct modern research in separations sciences and engineering within their specialized discipline.

3) Implement research in the laboratory environment at both the bench-scale and pilot-scale; 4) Disseminate research results to the external technical community and DOE.

6) Identify new funding opportunities and capture new funding for new RD&D work for the Department.

7) Participate in mission/strategy sessions with other senior R&D leaders at INL.

8) Develop, augment, and maintain the group’s existing technical capability base.

9) Act as a national authority having expertise in their given field and discipline.

10) Serve as a spokesperson for the Department and the broader INL organization at national meetings; possess,

QualificationsMinimum Requirements: 
  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Physics, or a related physical science field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or 8 years of relevant experience after the date of achieving a Ph.D.

    U.S. Citizenship required.

    You will be experienced and published in any the following general separations technologies areas:

    • Electrochemical, electrowinning, advanced redox leaching

    • Solvent extraction (hydrometallurgy, solvometallurgy, supercritical fluid), extractive metallurgy

    • Ion exchange

    • Membrane processes, filtration processes

    • Crystallization

    • Chromatographic separations

    • Beneficiation (gravity, magnetic, flotation, sortation, etc.)

    • Sorbents, complexants, molecular recognition, MOF’s, ZIF’s, ionic liquids, etc.
  • You must be a US Citizen.


Job Information: 

  • Salary Grade: PR0400 - 230 ($124,368 -$211,596) / PR0500 - 240 ($143,124 $243,312 )
