Position Summary

The Life and Annuity Claims Associate or Advisor works within the Claims Team to plan, investigate and adjudicate moderately complex to complex life and annuity claims, with a level of independence, and in accordance with the contract, company policy, and state regulations. Examiners are customer facing and central to creating and delivering seamless service excellence in support of the mission of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and assess claims caseload of some product breadth and more complexity, including contestable claims, living benefit riders, and advanced beneficiaries
  • Collect, evaluate, and interpret claim submission documentation and supporting medical records and investigative materials in a clear and concise manner to assure adherence to the contract
  • Communicate claims action/processing via telephone, email, and mail with external and internal interested parties, with the ability to handle more varied customer service situations
  • Manage caseload of in-process claims commensurate with experience level using effective and efficient process and time management
  • Authorize appropriate payment, deny claim, or refer claim to a more senior examiner or legal counsel as appropriate
  • Support other examiners and leaders with large or more complex claims
  • Mentor less experienced examiners as well as co-approve claims
  • Commit to professional growth and development, including taking more advanced industry courses and obtaining industry designations

Experience

  • Approximately 4 – 7 years of industry experience as a Claims Examiner, preferably in Life, Annuity, Disability, Long Term Care or Health insurance
  • Candidates with medical/health care administration experience will be considered
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred, but applicants of various backgrounds are encouraged to apply

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
