Join the Clean Energy Revolution

We are looking for a Senior Specialist that will lead manipulation and processing of the state’s raw climate data into relevant projections as part of the Integrated Planning and Climate Adaptation team within the Resource and Environmental Planning & Strategy organization.

Become a Climate Science Predictive Analytics Senior Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and shape our clean energy future. This position will be responsible for generating relevant climate projections, leveraging California’s Fifth Climate Assessment climate data, across thousands of assets across SCE’s service territory to support the assessment of vulnerability and risks associated with future climate conditions.  The work will primarily focus on identifying relevant climate variables for each asset class studied, developing climate projections methodologies that use appropriate Global Climate Models (GCMs) and data sets, as well as statistical approaches for arriving at the desired projections results. The role’s scope also includes working closely with asset owners to interpret climate projections and apply those projections to assess impacts, including asset degradation, system fragility and failure risks.

Your work will shape SCE’s Climate Adaptation Vulnerability Assessment, which depicts key risks and adaptation options to future climate conditions, enable integration of climate projections into key planning processes so future designs and investments are “climate informed”, and support engagement with those most vulnerable communities to jointly adapt to physical climate change impacts. Additionally, you’ll:

  • Build data pipelines to intake large amounts of climate data and manipulate the data to generate custom climate projections for end use applications.
  • Create, and maintain a repository of climate projection datasets, and develop tools and methods that allow SCE’s organizational units to readily access these projections to incorporate in their decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) in developing frameworks for quantifying consequences of future climate events and justifying climate adaptation investments.
  • Engage with the California Public Utilities Commission and other California policymakers to answer emergent policy questions related to climate science and adaptation planning.
  •  Advance much-needed public support to build climate resilience across the State, and how SCE can best partner with our stakeholders on this shared challenge.
  • Work with other utilities as well as electric industry groups to understand best and emerging practices in assessing physical climate change risks, quantifying those risks and developing appropriate adaptations to reduce those risks.

As a Climate Science Predictive Analytics Senior Specialist, your work will help integrate climate science in how SCE meets its net zero targets while addressing significant increased electricity demand, and future infrastructure investments incorporate future climate conditions when sizing and specifying grid investments. Are you ready to take on the challenge to help us build the future?
