Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a well-qualified postdoctoral researcher with expertise in control systems design and analysis, electrical engineering, power systems engineering or comparable disciplines for the Infrastructure Security Department. You will report to the program manager. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

This post doc position may involve advanced cyber-physical modeling and algorithm development, large area power systems modeling and controller design, advanced conductor testing (thermal-mechanical, electrical, and controls), and dynamic modeling of power system technologies.

You are expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work both alone and as a team member. The position entails writing scientific manuscripts for journal publication, and presentation of research results at national and international conferences and meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • PhD in control systems engineering, electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or comparable discipline. An interdisciplinary background in electrical engineering/structural dynamics or electrical engineering/mechanical engineering is sought after.
  • Degree requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the past 5 years.
  • Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 


Desired Requirements: 

  • 1 year experience with power system modeling and solvers: PowerWorld, PSSE, RSCAD, OpalRT, etc.
  • Familiarly with various power grid studies: load flow, arc flash, contingency analysis, etc.
  • Experience automating simulations.
  • Background in signal processing.
  • 1 year proficiency in python or C programming.


Job Information: 

  • The target salary for this position is $96,900. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
