Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Critical Infrastructure Cyber Protection & Defense Analyst to work in our Cyber and Incident Response Operations department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the senior manager over the Cyber and Incident Response Operations department.
Identify, analyze, and mitigate cyber security threats to critical infrastructure systems and networks. Use defensive measures and information to identify, analyze, and report events that occur or might occur within critical infrastructure cyber environments to protect information, information systems, cyberphysical systems, and networks from threats. Develop, integrate, test, implement, deploy, maintain, review, and administer the infrastructure hardware and software that are required to effectively manage computer network defense systems. Investigate and analyze all relevant cyber response activities for critical infrastructure asset owners. Conduct assessments of threats and vulnerabilities, assess the level of risks, and develop and recommend appropriate mitigation countermeasures in operations and nonoperational situations for critical infrastructure assets and organizations.
Responsibilities Include:
- Deliver professional advice, expertise, strategic insight, and other cyber-related consulting services to advance industrial control systems (ICS) cybersecurity for critical infrastructure.
- Provide advice and expertise in cybersecurity designs, implementation, vulnerability identification, and mitigation techniques and procedures that will aid industry and the Nation in securing critical infrastructure systems against current and emerging threats.
- Monitor critical infrastructure sector networks to actively remediate unauthorized activities.
- Respond to crises or urgent situations within critical infrastructure sectors to mitigate immediate and potential threats.
- Develop, research, and apply advanced mitigation, preparedness, and response and recovery approaches to maximize survival of life, preservation of property, and information security.
- Lead cyber security efforts and deliver capability to customers.
- Conduct information collection and analysis of United States critical infrastructure with particular emphasis on control systems and technology-controlled processes.
- Manage teams in the creation of cyber security products.
- Create related reports and provide briefings related to these issues.
- Conduct technical analysis projects.
- Work to fill gaps in current situational awareness across sectors and develop products to address the needs of a diverse customer set spanning multiple classification levels, federal, private, and international organizations.

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, cyber security/computer sciences, or business/financial management from an accredited institution and 5-9 years relevant experience; or Master’s mechanical or electrical engineering, cyber security/computer sciences, or business/financial management from an accredited institution and 2-6 years relevant experience; or a Doctorate in mechanical or electrical engineering, cyber security/computer sciences, or business/financial management from an accredited institution and 2-4 years relevant experience; or in lieu of degree 11 -15 years of relevant experience.
- Experience shall include designing or applying control systems cyber security solutions in critical infrastructure at the system and regional level.
- Relevant experience to include program management here at INL, particularly in the cyber security realm, and familiarity with industrial control systems.
- In-depth knowledge of the US energy sector and experience working with Department of Energy, DOD and DHS and private industry on grid security-related projects is beneficial.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($91,008 - $186,588) / Level 4 ($109,260 - $223,908). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
- Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
