Pay Range
$99,000.00-$136,200.00 AnnualThis is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
We are recruiting for an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager in our Phenix City, AL Insulation Systems Plant. The Phenix City, AL facility produces mineral wool building insulation for industrial and commercial applications; a variety of board/batt densities with and without facing, across several packaging alternatives. Some of these products are further converted into a variety of pipe insulation products. The facility is a Title V operation.
The Environmental Health & Safety Manager's focus is to ensure effective management of EHS systems while maintaining a safe workplace and compliance with applicable health, safety and environmental regulations in a multi-shift, 24/7 operation. This position reports to the Plant Manager and will be part of the plant leadership team. This role also enjoys a strong relationship to division/corporate environmental and safety leaders.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, comfortable in a manufacturing setting and flexible with their schedule. They will think out of the box and thrive in an environment of continuous improvement.
Your Day to Day:
- Behavioral Based Safety, Injury Case Management, Root Cause assessment and Corrective Action Plans, OSHA 300 Log, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Environmental Permit Compliance and Industrial Hygiene across the campus – primary operations as well as a nearby offsite warehouse
- Ensure all process additions and changes comply with all Phenix City and JM EHS standards
- Establish the Annual Operating Plan for the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Team, as well as supporting functional safety plans
- Demonstrate exceptional leadership in all responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of self and others by complying with all policies, procedures and licenses
- Effectively manage the EHS Team's performance development process, focusing on building a strong team
- Create a team passionate about working safely and in full compliance with all Plant, JM and OSHA requirements
- Create a culture where all levels of the team seek out and utilize data for decision making
- Lead efforts to create an employee led safety culture
- Actively participate on the Plant's Safety Committee
- Fulfill duties defined in the Plant's Emergency Response Plan
- Support and promote safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
- Foster regular two-way conversations in a flat organizational structure to maximize employee engagement and ensure appropriate focus
- Help ensure environmental and safety compliance for the facility
- Diagnose and solve complex problems
- Participates actively in all daily management standing meetings and other staff level meetings
- Complete all duties as assigned with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship
- Performs other related duties as assigned; work and partner with Plant Leadership team to achieve business goals
- This role is primarily traditional workdays (Monday through Friday, less holidays), 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM; however depending on projects and other situations, employee must be prepared to occasionally work other schedules as necessary to complete their tasks; employee is on-call 24x7 to support the plant in the event of a serious injury, fire, environmental concern or similar
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 5 years of working in environmental, health and safety in a manufacturing environment
- Experienced in preparing and implementing Behavior Based Safety/DuPont Safety or similar programs and managing for desired outcomes
- Leadership skills to direct personnel and processes within regulatory standards
- Experience in hazard awareness and risk assessment
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and ability to work with respective outside agencies
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well with upper-level management as well as production workforce
- Must have the ability to work with and influence a multi-discipline team and management with a demonstrated capability to implement plans and follow through with sustained execution, meeting project milestones in a timely manner
- This role manages a salary Safety Specialist and an hourly Safety Technician as well as providing indirect guidance to two hourly Utility workers.
- Demonstrated capabilities in working collaboratively with internal and external resources
- Must possess good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated drive and initiative to complete assigned tasks and investigate and seek out improvement opportunities
- Knowledge of environmental and safety Local/State/Federal rules/regulations
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access

Physical Demands
Ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.), to lift twist and turn up to 50 lb. (i.e. open and close large valves, inspect equipment, and non emergency equipment as needed.
Work Environment
This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. Employee will have a workspace in the general office, but will spend on average 30% of their day in the plant. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty and uneven. Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes safety toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection and in certain areas may be required to wear dust masks, gloves, respirators, or head protection.
