Position Summary
Provides leadership, strategic and tactical vision for all EHS activities at the plant, including but not limited to employee and visitor health & safety, workers compensation administration, site security, environmental and emergency response functions at the plant. Develop employee capabilities through training, coaching, communications and labor/employee relations.
Role & Responsibilities
- Defines the strategical road map for the safety and environmental journey.
- Contributes in the deployment of the safety and environmental system across all the Proximo NA sites.
- Leads the maintenance, review and update of all EHS policies or technical documents, Safety and Environmental Management Programs, training Materials and technical guidance ensuring compliance with OSHA and applicable regulatory agencies.
- Creates, maintains and evaluates the efficacy of the troubleshooting system for safety and environmental, creates system to evaluate trends.
- Supports the implementation and ensures compliance for effective EHS policies and programs in accordance with Company standards and governmental regulations.
- Provides expertise and guidance to improve EHS processes. Discovers, shares and communicates best practices.
- Coordinates resources, both internal and external, for EHS related programs and/or projects.
- Ensures EHS is part of PDI’s operational process and complies with all Company standards and governmental regulations.
- Serves as a member of the plant leadership team, setting directions and policy for the entire operation.
- Communicates direction to direct reports and holds department accountable for adherence to plant direction and policy.
- Participates in conferences and meetings. Facilitates interactive discussions and actionable outcomes.
- Prepares, maintains and submits all records and reports required by the Company, OSHA and any other regulatory agencies, i.e. OSHA 300 log and injury records. Perform trend analysis on information.
- Provides input during the planning and execution of new equipment and/or technology applications to ensure that safeguards meet all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for chemical management regarding approval/disapproval of all chemicals entering the facility, internal storage and usage.
- Responsible to lead internal and external safety audits.
- Coordinates the drill program and evaluation of alarm systems and ensure those are fully operating and in compliance.
- Develops and leads a Zero Loss journey through Loss Analysis on EHS related issues.
- Develops, trains and maintains an effective emergency response team to ensure appropriate response in the even of an emergency incident.
- Plans, monitors and controls expenditures with the approved budget.
- Administers worker’s compensation claims for the site and return to work program.
- Lead CAPEX safety related projects at the PDI plant.
- Designs the departmental training program to improve skills in safety and environmental topics.

Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an EHS capacity within a manufacturing site.
- Knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities to execute US based EHS legislation and regulatory requirements for OSHA, EPA, etc.
- Previous experience with TPM, Lean Six Sigma and High-Performance Work Systems preferred.
- Knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities of hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies. Examples: Gemba/Hazard recognition walks, Behavior based observation systems, PDCA, risk assessments, near misses, leading vs. lagging indicators.
- Strong leadership and change management abilities.
- Proficiency in Word, Outlook and the use of Internet for research and development.
- Strong Excel skills or any similar data analysis software
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Experience working in a union environment a plus.
- Operational responsibility 24/7/365 will require flexibility in schedule, regarding both time of day and day of week. Interaction across all shifts and crews is critical to the success of this role.
