Ready to change the world's energy future and secure our critical infrastructure? The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified postdoc with expertise in electrical engineering or comparable discipline for the Infrastructure Security Department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off reporting to the Project Investigator.

This postdoc position may involve advanced conductor testing (thermal-mechanical), power systems modeling (electrical), and dynamic modeling of power transformers (structural).

You are expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work effectively both alone and as a team member. The candidate must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers. The ideal candidate will be able to grasp the grand vision of a project, generate a detailed plan to ensure project success, and execute the plan. You will be required to write scientific manuscripts for journal publication, and presentation of research results at national and international conferences and meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or comparable discipline. An interdisciplinary background in electrical engineering/structural dynamics or electrical engineering/mechanical engineering is sought after.
  • PhD requirements must be completed prior to commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years.
  • Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Preferred Experience: 

  • 1 year experience with power flow solvers: power world, PSSE, MATPOWER, pandapower, or others.
  • Familiarity with various power grid studies: load flow, arc flash, contingency analysis, or others.
  • Experience automating simulations.
  • Background in signal processing.
  • 1 year proficiency in python or C programming.
  • Good publication record.


Job Information: 

  • The target pay range for this position is $96,900 annually.  At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
