Position Title:Health Services Assistant

As a Health Services Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the health and well-being of youth in our care. Your main job will be to transport youth to medical appointments, both on-site and off-site, and to serve as a bridge between healthcare providers and our Health Services team. You’ll also help with scheduling, keep medical records updated, assist with managing health supplies, and help care for youth when they are sick. This position requires good organization, communication skills, and a valid driver’s license. Minimum Education and Skills
  • High school Diploma/GED
  • Drivers license for 1+ year

Job Description

Job Title: Health Services Assistant
Department: Health Services for WLH Residential
Title of Immediate Supervisor: Health Services Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Is primarily responsible for transporting youth to community based medical providers and serving as a liaison between the provider and Health Services staff and provides clerical assistance.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
1. Accompanies youth to healthcare appointments, both on-site and off-site, and communicates appropriate information between the healthcare providers and health services staff.
2. Scheduling of routine health related appointments and distributes the weekly appointment schedule to the supervising nurse and identified appropriate staff.
3. Informs the supervising nurse of any appointment scheduling concerns and/or need for additional health related providers.
4. Scans medical appointments and medical information into the youth’s health care records.
5. Ensures that all health-related providers have the appropriate billing information and communicates any insurance concerns with the New Directions Medicaid Managed Care Liaison.
6. Documents all health-related appointment information in Netsmart for each youth.
7. Reports youth’s behavior while on appointments to the immediate supervisor, social worker, and living unit/cottage staff.
8. Assists Health Services Medicaid Treatment and Discharge Planner with the maintenance of youth’s individual files to include filing, preparation of admission records, and the preparation of discharge files and after care planning.
9. Transports medical specimens to an approved laboratory.
10. Serves as a liaison between New Directions and health providers and schools.
11. Communicates health related information to youth’s family as directed by the supervising nurse.
12. Packs medication on week-end visits.
13. Transports youth to visits with their family.
14. Manages inventory of health services supplies and orders as needed which includes collecting low medication sheets from the cottages.
15. Assists with the care and supervision of ill youth in the infirmary according to the supervising nurse’s instructions and if possible, within the cottage.
16. Keeps the infirmary and examination room clean and neat at all times.
17. Monitors the Health Services department, during the supervising nurse’s absence, following written instructions from the supervising nurse/health services director.
18. Maintains vehicle safety while transporting youth and reports all vehicle concerns to the maintenance supervisor.
19. Ensures the 1st Aid Kits are stocked and available within the agency vehicles.
20. Maintains Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certification and First Aid/CPR Training as provided by the Agency.
21. Reports suspected Child Abuse and Maltreatment as mandated by law and agency policy.
22. Attends all mandatory in-service training and regularly attends supervision meetings.
23. All duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

SKILL, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education and/or Professional Qualifications/Skills
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Associates Degree and two years’ experience in related field preferred
• Previous experience in childcare preferred
