The base hourly rate for this position is $21.54
  • JOB OBJECTIVE: Responsible for preforming all duties on a professional level and complying with the Production Superintendent, under direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor. Working from general instructions from the plant management team, and all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements. Act as a regulatory compliance resource.    Show initiative in supporting safety, plant wide. Participate on committees as required. Records required data on prescribed report form. May assist in taking product samples for quality checks. Keeps equipment, work areas and other prescribed areas clean and orderly at all times. Conducts safety inspections on all machines.  Periodically perform machine set up to meet production needs. Train and learn different aspects of different positions as needed. Trains and instructs new or lesser experienced employees as required. Follows the Lean Production method using 5S Procedures and Guidelines. Ensures that all 5S areas of responsibility have been completed before end of shift. Wears all required PPE. Performs other related duties as directed, including duties of other classification. Operates a lift truck or other material handling equipment in servicing production as required. Delivers glass of proper type, furnace and date to the Glass Department and assists in dumping and servicing to proper machine. Mixing and handling resins and other chemicals while using computers and other forms of measuring devices. Secures and maintains supply of empty pallets for use in storing raw materials and finished goods. Re-positions and stacks materials in various storage locations as necessary. Reports all operational and mechanical difficulties observed or encountered on material handling equipment and observes malfunctioning equipment and reports condition to the supervisor. Performs any duties connected with the take-off end of a unit that are necessary to inspect, remove, pack, scrap, prepare, or otherwise dispose of all material coming from the unit. Removes completed rolls or pieces of wool from wind-up and starts new roll or sections at the wind-up; accurately weighs and records weights as required; wraps or packs specified quantities of rolls or pieces by hand or using packing machines; identifies each package in a prescribed manner; stacks packages on carts, pallets, trucks or other designated area.  Handles carts as required. Observes material coming from unit for all types of visual and physical defects such as improper cure, binder distribution, color, primary fibers, slugs, streamers, knots, improper thickness and density, registration, dirt, damage, etc.  Asides defective material for subsequent disposition.  Notifies Machine Chief or Shift, Operator or Supervisor of consistent defects so that corrective action may be taken. Operates facing application equipment; sets up and maintains glue in glue stripper pan; changes printing wheels and keeps them in proper adjustment; maintains ink supply; changes facing paper rolls and maintains proper registration. May trim or cut pieces of insulation by hand or trimmer.  Feeds core rolls as required and performs salvage operations. Prepares packaging material for use including labeling, packages, labeling, cartons, etc; applies labels; cuts packaging and wrapping material efficiently; keeps adhesive pots filled; assembles cartons; keeps staplers supplied. Sets up and maintains stretch wrappers, assuring proper packaging. Handles and removes all scrap from units, strips it and bales it or otherwise disposes of it as directed. Assists other members of the crew in starting up and shutting down a unit.  Assists in cleanouts including cleaning oven flights, sizers, suction boxes, stacks, etc. Assists in all duties pertaining to product changes as the cold end as directed including setting up facing application equipment, adjusting printers, etc. Assists other crew members during emergencies such as fires, jams, roll wraps, break outs, etc. Notifies Quality Control, Machine Chief and Shift Supervisor regarding production of questionable quality material. Relieves other crew members as directed and remains on assigned job until properly relieved. Observes for malfunctions or equipment and for unusual operating conditions taking corrective action or notifying supervision so that corrective action may be taken. Uses safe work practices and reports hazardous conditions. Follow safety guidelines in the defiance complex.  Wear proper PPE.  Follow all general shop rules for defiance complex.  Cleanup your work area (unit).  Attend all monthly safety meetings.   Complete safety/beware audits on a monthly basis.  Complete computer based training and all other programs needed to stay in compliance with company policy’s

    JOB MEASUREMENTS:  Effective interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in team based environment, flexibility, the ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment in a safe manor, demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities during the course of the day.  

    JOB LOCATION:

    The responsibilities for this job are performed on the production plant floor.  Conditions are often hot, with temperatures ranging from 70-115 degrees.  The environment may be dirty from oils/grease, and may be noisy from the machinery.  Required personal protective equipment must be worn at all times.

    • Measurement devices for product quality, some hand tools such as knifes and saws

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    INSPECTOR PACKER GENERAL DUTIES

    Under general supervision of Department Superintendent & direction of Shift Supervisor, tends take-off end of an insulation unit. Working from general verbal and written instruction and according to established operating procedures, performs the following duties:

    Performs any duties connected with the take-off end of the machine that are necessary to inspect, remove, pack, scrap, or otherwise dispose of all material that comes from the machine.

    Removes completed rolls or pieces of wool from windup and starts new rolls; accurately weighs and records weights of rolls and pieces as required; package material by hand or by means of packaging equipment;identifies each package in the prescribed manner, and stacks roll or package on a cart, pallet or other prescribed area. Handles carts as required.

    Observes material coming off machine for all types of visual and physical defects such as improper thickness or density, registration, dirt. wet spots, damage and poor workmanship. Asides defective material for disposition by others. Records required data on prescribed report form. Reports consistent defects to Machine Chief or Supervisor so that corrective action can be taken.

    Monitors windup compression. Informs Machine Chief if adjustments are required.

    Assists as directed in all duties pertaining to a product change on the cold end including assisting in setting up slitter knives, facing/adhesive application equipment, printer, etc.

    Assists other members of crew in starting up unit, changing unit over from one product to another, and in shutting down and cleaning unit, including cleaning of oven flights, sizers, suction boxes, etc.

    Prepares packaging material for use including, Stencil packages, bags, labels & cartons applies labels, cuts poly for wrappings; supplies and changes rolls of poly; assembles cartons.

    Handles and removes scrap from machine area, baling it or disposing of it in the prescribed manner.

    May use Fork Truck in some operations. Must have a valid Manville Fork Truck Operators License to operate Fork lift.

    Notifies Machine Chief and Supervisor regarding production of questionable quality material.

    As required, assists and relieves other members of crew.

    Observes for malfunctions of equipment and for unusual operating conditions and notifies Machine Chief so that corrective action can be taken.

    Uses safe work practices and reports hazardous conditions. Wears safety equipment as required.

    Occasionally instructs new or less experienced employees on the job.

    Performs clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed, including initiating of inventory control records, recording and identifying good production and scrap by causes.

    Keeps equipment, work areas and other prescribed areas clean and orderly.

    Perform, other related duties as directed. Operates facing paper application equipment including, sets up and maintains adhesive system, changes facing paper rolls and maintains proper registration; maintains printing systems for proper printing and adequate ink supplies.

    This job requires periodic, non-repetitive manual lifting of weights that may exceed 50 pounds and requires a moderate to high degree of physical agility and endurance.
