Mill Creek internship opportunities vary and will be designed to further the educational components and prior experiences of the candidates.  Internships will offer various forms of learning opportunities, job training, and exposure to some of the leading practices, processes, and project management software utilized in the industry as well as the culture and work environment offered by an industry leader.

Essential Functions/Learning Opportunities

  • Become familiar with Mill Creek’s culture and philosophy by completing required online training programs, in addition to compliance and risk management online training. 
  • Work with their designated supervisor to understand Mill Creek’s business model and how the Construction function contributes.
  • Work with their designated supervisor or designee to become familiar with tools and resources available to members of the workgroup.

Internship opportunities in the field, office, or both will vary and may be dependent on the candidate’s background and interest to include.

Field: Interns opportunity to learn and assist with performing a number of supporting roles under the supervision of experienced MCRT field personnel who will offer direction and guidance.  Supporting roles may include working with:

  • Field Supervisors in charge of the day-to-day site activities and subcontractors performing the work;
    • Learn duties related to supervising and directing Subcontractors, Material deliveries, Punch Carpenters and/or Laborers.
    • Gain fluency in project drawings, shop drawings, and manufacturer material sheets.
    • Assist with execution of site Staging & Logistic plans.
    • Learn and assist with project scheduling creation and implementation.
    • Learn and assist with Daily manpower reporting, Safety inspections, and Design Team field reports
    • Assist with scheduling required jurisdictional inspections and testing.
    • Learn to identify, analyze, and make mitigation recommendations of potential project risks including safety/loss control, subcontractor/supplier issues, site conditions and logistics, scheduling, change orders, and document conflicts.
    • Learn Mill Creek quality standards.
    • Assist with preparing punch lists and reviewing the completion of all related work prior to inspection and product acceptance.
    • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned

Office: Interns have the opportunity to learn and assist with performing a number of supporting roles under the supervision of experienced MCRT office personnel who will offer direction and guidance.  Supporting roles may include working with:

  • Project Management and Estimators in charge of project budgets and cost forecasting, contracting and purchasing of materials and services, the processing of design information, product materials and related questions and, the periodic reporting and project updates required by lenders and project owners, for example
    • Learn and assist in maintaining project schedules using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera.
    • Gain an understanding of the Request For Information (RFI) process, submittals, and shop drawings
    • Learn and assist with preparation and execution of Mill Creek’s 5-Star Quality Program.
    • Learn and assist with preparation and review of subcontractor scope of work
    • Learn and assist with the preparation of a site utilization plan
    • Gain an understanding of subcontractors’ scope of work and assist with bid package development
    • Learn pricing models used to establish costs and budgets for projects in varying stages of design and development
    • Learn how Project Management and Field teams work together towards successful project execution.
  • Project Coordinators and Project Billing Managers in charge of the processing of contracts, purchase orders, billing and construction loan payment requests, for example
    • Learn and assist with creating and managing subcontractor agreements, purchase orders, and change orders
    • Learn and assist with the weekly/monthly invoice processing
    • Learn and assist with maintaining monthly project reviews and costs reports
    • Assist with tracking subcontractor requirements
