Basic Purpose:

The purpose of the maintenance mechanic is to troubleshoot, repair and perform predictive and preventative maintenance of packaging, milling and blending equipment.  Secondary duties include, but are not restricted to, upgrading and installation of new equipment, electrical, welding, machining, mechanical, etc., while maintaining the highest safety, quality, cost and GMP standards in a high-speed manufacturing environment.

Tasks are to be completed while maintaining the highest safety, food safety and quality, cost and GMP standards in a high speed manufacturing environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and make repairs in expeditious manner.
  • Perform weekly preventative maintenance functions.
  • Perform yearly rebuilds on assigned equipment.
  • Participate and assist in the installation of new machinery.
  • Inspect machines for parts wear and recommend/participate in making necessary repairs.
  • Ensure that all paperwork including daily end of shift reports, inventory, safety sheets (ex: hot work permits, confined space) and supply requisitions are accurate.
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality issues and initiate action, as necessary.
  • Follow all Food Safety guidelines, but not limited to:
    • GMP’s
    • Allergen Program
    • Quality
    • Sanitation
    • Safety
  • Additional duties and various projects as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in a mechanical repair capacity or related role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Industrial electrical/mechanical maintenance experience strongly preferably in a packaging manufacturing environment, or similar education and/or experience with PLC is highly desired.
  • Possess own hand tools outlined by Celestial Seasonings.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience troubleshooting and installing high speed industrial machinery.
  • Project management – ability to see job through to completion with attention to detail in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work within a team concept. Flexibility is an asset.
  • Strong background in electronics and PLC controlled processes.
  • Strong machining and welding skills are desirable.
  • Strong safety record.
  • Good attendance and dependability a must.
  • Must be physically able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must have computer skills to look up part location/availability on computer using maintenance software.
  • Ability to communicate with other mechanics and be able to explain mechanical processes and theory.
  • Ability to meet attendance guidelines and work additional hours/OT as needed.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with all contacts both inside and outside the company.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to work around operating equipment, stand, reach, pull, stoop and bend
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection if necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • New starting wage is $28 / hour (commensurate with experience and location). *Note that rate could change based on a shift schedule.
