Efficient production lines and flow of materials is the key to success!

A Material Handler is responsible for setting up production lines and machines, maintaining production lines, and moving stock and other materials to fulfill orders. Assist production lead, supervisor/manager in ensuring that productivity and quality standards are met, and that employees in work cell are trained and effective in their positions. The ideal candidate for the material handler position is a diligent worker who can complete tasks successfully with little to no guidance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Perform set-up of machines and production lines at the beginning of shift and throughout shifts as needed according to job specifications and production schedule; monitor and make adjustments on machines to improve technical and/or production efficiencies
  • Perform changeover of production lines as needed per the production schedule

  • Move material from storage or staging areas to production areas using dolly, hand truck or other device
  • Shrink wrap pallets of product as needed
  • Use pallet banding tools and equipment  
  • Count and return material as needed
  • Effectively communicate with work cell team members; maintain a positive attitude and a willingness to share knowledge and teach/train team
  • Maintain high quality standards according to job specifications; ensure work cell team members perform quality checks as directed
  • Ensure production orders are completed on schedule and any excess components are returned to inventory appropriately and report any scrap or damaged product (components or finished goods)
  • Verify all product is properly stamped and labeled according to product specifications, if applicable
  • Report any discrepancies to supervisor/manager or to production planner
  • Report any problems to production lead, supervisor, manager and include maintenance tech or quality tech as appropriate
  • Notify production supervisor/manager on areas of concern regarding personnel issues
  • Maintain current and up-to-date on technical skills with respect to equipment /machinery by attending required training classes
  • Ability to drive a 26’+/- box truck to make local pickups or deliveries
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned
  • Work under general supervision


JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

Education:  High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred



Experience:  3-4 years’ experience in a material handling role in a manufacturing production environment with proven attendance record

Knowledge/Skills:



  • Possess knowledge of the technical principals and concepts of all machines
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to solve technical problems of a complex nature
  • Knowledge of operational processes, systems, tools, and workflow for assigned area
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of individuals and skill levels
  • Math and computer skills necessary to create and/or update documents and spreadsheets
  • Working knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Possess a positive work attitude and a willingness to carry out instructions
  • Ability to express and share knowledge and ideas in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task


Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Must maintain a current forklift certification
  • Current driver’s license and driving record in good standing
