Job Summary
The coordinator, in conjunction with the tutoring coordinator and the MS Division Tutoring/Spotlight Coordinator, is responsible for overseeing training, scheduling, and supervision of tutors in the Math Tutoring Center. Additionally, the coordinator will develop programs, services, and activities related to the center. The coordinator will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to develop and implement strategies for promoting student success and academic excellence in mathematics and statistics. The coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations of the center, including budget management, reporting, and scheduling.
Job Duties:
1. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate mathematics and statistics tutors.
2. Develop and implement programs and activities that promote math and statistics learning, engagement, and success.
3. Provide academic support and tutoring to students in math and statistics.
4. Conduct tutoring sessions as assigned in any of the three available formats (face-to-face, online, and remote) with students of a variety of experience in mathematics and statistics.
5. Monitor Math Tutoring Center correspondences and respond to students’ questions about tutoring resources.
6. Conduct consultations for math student success sessions through one-on-one meetings or group meetings.
7. Conduct new tutor onboarding training and obtain feedback from tutors on all conducted trainings/professional development.
8. Leads by modeling tutor expectations and reinforcing best practices.
9. Provide students with information about the Math Tutoring Center’s on-campus, online, and remote tutoring and workshops by assisting with orientation sessions and acting as a representative at on-campus events, as requested.
10. Work with faculty to identify areas where additional support is needed and develop programs to address those needs.
11. Develop and implement strategies to promote math and statistics education to underrepresented groups and improve retention rates.
12. Plan and coordinate events and workshops related to math and statistics.
13. Maintain accurate records of center activities and student progress.
14. Collaborate with other departments and organizations on campus to promote math and statistics learning and engagement.
15. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, or related field and one year of related experience, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous tutoring experience.
• Flexible in the assistance provided to students.
• Skilled in interpersonal communication and a good understanding of conversational nuances.
• Ability to navigate online platforms to facilitate virtual tutoring.
