Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Part-time Recreation Program Sport Assistant (Parks & Recreation Aide). The Part-Time Recreation Sports Assistant will assist in the planning, organization, and supervision of recreational sports activities for both youth and adults. This role will support the implementation of sports programs, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive environment for all participants. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills when interacting with participants, coaches, and the public. Working nights and weekends is required to support scheduled games, practices, and events; performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write and follow instructions; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Must have a Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License and a Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Level 1 required upon hire. Candidates must be available to work afternoons starting after 3 PM, as well as nights and weekends.

Desired Experience/Knowledge:

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, along with a positive and enthusiastic attitude toward sports and recreation. They should demonstrate excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities, be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively with a team, and possess strong communication skills when interacting with participants, coaches, staff, and the public. A basic knowledge of various sports rules, such as soccer, basketball, and softball, is a plus, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment is essential.

Special Working Conditions

The Recreation Sports Aide will work outdoors and indoors, depending on the sports activities and events. This position involves physical activity, including setting up equipment, walking, standing for extended periods, and assisting participants as needed. Evening and weekend shifts will be required to support program schedules.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
