Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Part-time Assistant II, Sonography Lab is responsible for routine lab preparation duties and assisting students in lab. May be responsible for tracking laboratory equipment and supplies. Will assess and escalate lab issues as needed. Activities involve a variety of routine tasks and many non-routine tasks that require independent judgment to resolve issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports Sonography Director and faculty in preparation of lab stations
  • Properly handles and disposes of laboratory wastes
  • Provides routine lab support including all aspects of lab safety, cleaning, inspection and maintenance of lab classrooms including equipment and supplies needed for labs, assist with lab laundry
  • Performs record keeping requiring accuracy and attention to detail, such as lab equipment inventory, supplies inventory, and student after hours lab sign-up sheet
  • Works with faculty and students as needed, especially staffing Open Lab periods for student independent work; Ensures proper supplies and safety procedures during this time
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of general or echocardiography protocols
  • Ability to operate all DMS lab/ultrasound equipment
  • Ability to assist students with sonography or echocardiography scanning skills
  • Must be computer literate
  • Safety record and safety consciousness
  • Flexible and creative to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty and staff
  • Effective communication skills

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office and/or laboratory environment with exposure to safety hazards typical in a laboratory (working with chemicals, moving equipment, etc.) 
  • Safety protocol must be strictly followed at all times
  • Work schedule is flexible around student class schedule and includes evenings and Saturdays

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of two semesters of course and clinical experiences within Sonography and/or Echocardiography programs
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $13.00
