Position Description

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at the Harvard Medical School is seeking a Senior Developer with experience in gene expression analysis, web development, and machine learning to lead comprehensive applications/web development for complex projects.  
 

The candidate will be integrating disparate public data sources relevant to genetics and therapeutics to allow for rich annotation of therapeutic candidates. They will be independently responsible for the design and implementation of intuitive and responsive web-based analytic tools that will enable researchers and clinicians to easily submit data and rapidly receive interpretable results.   
 

Typical Core duties: 

  • Serve as subject matter and engineering expert leading the completion, continued implementation, and evolution of the trademarked Cellenics single cell analytics pipeline product.       
  • Conducting systems analysis, design, development, and implementation of web applications.      
  • Leading technical conversations with internal and external partners. 
  • Leading response to security threats and their prevention, ensuring compliance with departmental security requirements by implementing security measures.       
  • Strategic advisor to cloud security personnel to ensure compliance and run business impact analysis.   
  • Platform analytics monitoring to identify trends, user behaviors, and improvements.        
  • Repository and software maintenance, implementation of new features to improve platform performance and capabilities.       
  • Participate fully in the software development life cycle.      
  • Lead development of technical solutions to deliver business requirements. 
  • Participate in long term strategic planning for the application portfolio(s).       
  • Establish and maintain internal/external stakeholder relationships.       
  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, polices and Code of Conduct. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated aptitude in quantitative biology or relevant fields.      
  • Proficiency in web and scientific programming (R, Python) and full stack web development (JavaScript). 
  • Experience with successful self-directed research projects.      
  • Ability to build functional prototypes given minimal specification.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
