Job Description

The Shipping and Receiving Alternate works any shift when other Shipping and Receiving employees are off. With 24 hours prior notice, the employee will backfill on 1st or 3rd shift at the direction of the Shipping Lead in conjunction with the Operations Manager and/or Plant Manager. If not backfilling an employee on 1st or 3rd shift, this employee will be
scheduled on 2nd shift. There is also the potential to work a split shift.

Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.
  • Determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes.
  • Contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments, using work devices, such as hand truck, conveyor, or sorting bins.
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, and shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list.
  • Pack, seal, label, and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter
  • Receive and count stock items, and record data manually or using computer.
  • Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards.
  • Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations.
  • Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.
  • Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, supply rooms, or other areas.
  • Mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports of inventories, shortages, shipments, expenditures, and goods used or issued.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing and able to drive a fork truck and pass certification
  • Willing and able to work any shift given 24-hours prior notice

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's Degree (two-year college or technical school)
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience with hazardous materials
  • Minimum of 1 years analytical testing experience
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Attention to detail and strong math skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Team player, individual thinker
  • Customer focused; positive attitude
