Job Summary
Hazard Community & Technical College is seeking applicants for the position of Student Support Specialist I (Staff Tutor). This position is responsible for working with students to provide tutoring services in math and a variety of other courses, that reinforce key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom, especially those students with accommodations. This position will also be cross trained to support advising and specialized accommodation service (example: serving as a test reader/proctor, notetaker) needs of students. NOTE: position is funded a grant.

Job Duties:
Provide students with supplemental skills and teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions for math and other coursework
Attend program/ courses, seminars or workshops to update skills and knowledge as new concepts/technology is developed.
Assists in maintaining administrative records and statistics for tutoring usage.
Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks to reinforce key concepts .
Emphasis in supporting skills, concepts, and use of specific technology for students with accommodations (ADA) by assisting students in accessing appropriate assistive technology tools/equipment and how to use these resources for the classroom.
Demonstrating academic best practices for math course assignments, including research and writing tactics
Providing students positive and constructive feedback on progress where appropriate
Providing tutoring services at HCTC locations, through various modes (on campus or online), and at various times (day, evening, and weekend), as needed
Working collaboratively as a team utilizing Brainfuse and institutional capabilities to best serves students with tutoring needs
Provide advising support for new/continuing students creating/updating graduation plans.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years related experience preferred.
Experience/knowledge of tutoring mathematics preferred.
