Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Systems Manager.
The IT systems manager is responsible for overseeing the IT infrastructure and systems administration of the organization.
The IT systems manager leads a team of systems administrators who maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade Windows and Linux server environments both cloud and on-premise, as well as the authentication systems and Active Directory. The IT systems manager also ensures the security, reliability, and performance of the IT systems and services, and provides technical guidance and support to other IT staff and users.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the systems administration team, including hiring, training, evaluation, and development of staff.
- Plan, design, implement, and maintain the IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Ensure high availability, security and compliance of the IT systems and data, following the best practices and standards.
- Monitor and optimize the performance and availability of IT systems and services, using various tools and metrics.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other IT managers and teams, as well as external vendors and partners, to provide integrated and efficient IT solutions.
- Manage the IT budget and resources, and provide reports and recommendations to senior management.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and trends, and propose improvements and innovations to the IT systems and services.
Monitor security advisories and stay informed of emerging security threats. - Collaborate with IT Security to prioritize patch deployment, remediating vulnerabilities, and mitigate risks.
- Schedule regular off-hour patching of IT Systems. Coordinate patching of ERP systems with IT Enterprise Solutions team.
- Provide technical expertise and support to the IT staff and users, and resolve complex IT issues and incidents.

Required Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least five years experience in IT systems administration, preferably in a large and complex IT environment.
- Advanced knowledge and skills in Windows and Linux servers, authentication systems, and Active Directory.
- Experience in managing and leading IT teams, projects, and working with cross functional and diverse stakeholders.
- Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, Postfix, and various other services.
- Good understanding of vulnerability management and scanning of systems.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and e-mail, specifically Microsoft Office products.
- Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot problems .
- Ability to work independently and be a self starter.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Certifications in relevant IT domains, such as Microsoft, Linux, or security.
- Knowledge of Information security standards (e.g., NIST, ISO, etc.), rules and regulations related to information security and confidentiality (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, FERPA, etc.) and other various security standards and policies.
Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements
- Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- Evening and/or weekend hours may be occasionally required.
