Overview

LMI is seeking a skilled UX/UI Designer to help revolutionize customer experiences (CX) with the Social Security Administration. This individual will work as part of a cross-functional team, providing service design, user experience (UX), human centered design (HCD) support, through research, analysis, and recommendation activities associated with this transformation initiative. We are seeking a self-starter with expert consulting skills and experience spanning CX, UX, process improvement, and human centered design domains.

Responsibilities

  • Work with users and subject matter experts to clearly understand and define their challenges, problems, motivations, triggers, and aspirations. 
  • Solve problems and think critically to architect innovative and practical technology and functional solutions. 
  • Communicate research and designs using wireframes, workflow generation, hi-fidelity designs, story boarding, visual presentations, and documentation to stakeholders, senior leadership, service lines and markets. 
  • Collaborate with design team members, program managers and developers to define, prototype and iterate new and existing product features and build solution mock-ups and prototypes. 
  • Document clear, organized solutions that are easily understandable in flow, function and status by stakeholders, engineers, and unfamiliar eyes. 
  • Adapt designs as needed, expecting some ambiguity and change during projects. 
  • Communicate status of work clearly and provide visibility to supervisor. 
  • Integrate elements of system, process, and interface design to demonstrate frictionless user experiences. 
  • Rapidly test designs with users using both passive and active methods. 
  • Design, coordinate, and execute large scale and continuous qualitative and qualitative UX research activities, focusing on both conceptual designs and developed software. 
  • Work with release management to coordinate user acceptance testing at critical release milestones. 
  • Provide cross-cutting tools and oversight to ensure that development complies with industry standards and best practices and regulatory requirements (including meeting 508 accessibility requirements), reduces rework and cost when possible, and trends toward technology/product agnostic development.   

Qualifications

Qualifications (Required): 

  • 3+ years of experience in product design or related discipline. 
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of good user interface design (consistency, simplicity, and usability) 
  • Strong communication skills: you can effectively articulate, evangelize and defend your ideas amongst your peers, stakeholders, and leadership. 
  • Experience in qualitative and qualitative, participatory research, persona development, user journey mapping, and/or visualizing other user-experience flows. 
  • Experience in user research including conducting moderated interviews, user testing, persona creation, information architecture and workflow creation. 
  • A strong understanding of how to apply the elements of visual design such as typography, hierarchy, balance, motion, and interaction. 
  • Portfolio demonstrating knowledge and understanding of design best practices and methodology while showcasing case studies. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. 
  • Experience with design tools, such as Figma and Adobe CC. 
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts and apply them effectively to practical solutions. 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in design, user experience, technology, computer science, or related technical discipline 

Qualifications (Preferred): 

  • Experience with Maze, Dovetail, and other UX research tools.  
  • Experience working in an agile software development framework.  
  • Previous experience within the government contracting space. 
  • Experience building and working with a design system at scale. 
  • Experience creating a style guide and working alongside developers and data scientists. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic code languages/platforms such as Javascript, React, SQL.
