Job Summary The Emergency Department Internship is a 6 month ,intensive, on the job training program coupled with acute, progressive, and high acuity care training across the emergency department. Previous RN experience with less than 1 year critical care is preferred, but new graduate RN’s (BSN preferred) are also encouraged to apply—especially those with current/prior experience as a NCT or EMT. Must agree to work a minimum of 18 months following completion of the emergency nursing internship. Hours of employment may be on any shift and on any day of the week. Registered Nurses in Adult Emergency Services at UK Chandler /Samaritan Hospital provide care for patients with illnesses from greater than 17 years of age and for injured patients from greater than 14 years of age. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant); and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Furthermore, this environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes.
