Position Information

Hiring Department: The UTEP Athletics Department

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends.

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $59,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Summary:Renders specialized medical care in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, and rehabilitation of student-athletes and provides a safe environment for all University sponsored practices and competitions.

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and must be insurable as defined in the UT System BPM 16-05-02, as applicable to the performance of essential duties and responsibilities of the position.



Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:



Assists in the organizing, managing, and administration of all aspects of the UTEP Sports Medicine Program.



Follows the NATA Code of Ethics; remains current on all state and national requirements for license renewal.



Provides injury care and rehabilitation to designated sport(s) as assigned; provides feedback to coaches on a daily basis of injury and rehabilitation progression.



Travels with designated teams as assigned by Director of Sports Medicine; coordinates doctor's appointments and helps process insurance claims; acts as liaison between medical team and coaching staffs.



Supervises undergraduate athletic training students; provides in-services and teaches the students the essentials of athletic training.



Assists with the maintenance of training room equipment and apparatus; performs yearly safety inspections; maintains records on student-athletes and ensures the accuracy of files maintained in the University's Athletic Training Room; assists with the administration of the drug testing program for student athletes.



Maintains inventory of all supplies and equipment to ensure efficient and economical methods of operations; requisitions purchases to replenish stock.



Must be able to work evenings and weekends.



Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to student athletes in this area.



Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA Rules and Regulations including attendance of NCAA Rules Seminars, timely completion of all NCAA forms and requests for information.



Employee agrees to abide by the Code of Ethics as set forth by the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Texas System.



Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Education required:Bachelor's Degree.



Minimum Experience required:
  • No minimum experience qualification.
  • Eligible for Texas State Athletic Trainer Licensure.
  • NATA Certified.
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Strong sense of principles and ethics in regard to the welfare of the student-athlete.
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-task environment as well as within a team-oriented work group.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model for student-athletic trainees and student-athletes alike.
  • Occasional traveling required.
