Job Summary

The Department of Anthropologyin the College of Arts Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY seeks to fill a tenure-eligible faculty position at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in the field of Medical Anthropology This is a 9-month position in the regular title series with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be a cultural anthropologist with an active research program in the United States focused on health disparities. We welcome applicants who desire to be part of a dynamic research community with a shared commitment to compassionate and student-centered teaching and mentoring. The teaching load is two courses per semester, including introduction to anthropology, anthropological theories and methods, and classes related to the candidate’s specific expertise and interests.

A Ph.D. in Anthropology is required.



Our department is a dynamic community of learners, teachers, and researchers who work globally. We specialize in archaeology, biological anthropology, and cultural anthropology. We offer B.A. and B.S. degrees, an undergraduate certificate in Biological Anthropology, a 5-year combined B.A./M.A. degree program, an M.A. degree in Applied Anthropology, and PhD degrees. Our undergraduate and graduate students are active in research, internships, and the department via participation in regular Brown Bag conversations, colloquia, departmental committees, and student-led events, such as the annual Bluegrass Annual Discussions on Anthropology and the Social Sciences (BADASS) conference. We foster an environment that promotes the importance of anthropology for interdisciplinary work, and we strive to support department members who pursue collaborative research and teaching opportunities.
