Job Summary
Primary Objectives:
Facilitate the safe and effective use of nursing and simulation laboratory environments, supplies and equipment, which are required to meet the course and program learning outcomes of the nursing program.
Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
Task Statements:
60% Facilitate Student Learning:
· Assist and provide guidance to nursing students practicing required skills as directed by faculty and according to curricular standards
· Prepare and set-up supplies and equipment necessary for learning activities in the nursing laboratory or simulation laboratory as directed, with the assistance of faculty.
· Assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies
· Check, gather, and obtain instructional media items for the faculty.
· Establish/maintain a schedule for student practice and testing appointments using the on-line scheduling system. Assist students with scheduling as needed.
· Assist with maintaining records of lab use, and student practice hours
15% Inventory (Supplies/Equipment) and Utilization:
· Assist with maintenance of a current directory of all Nursing Laboratory and Simulation Laboratory inventory and assist with completion of annual inventory.
· Assist with laboratory inventory, supplies and equipment, including mannequins and simulators.
· Assist with and monitor audio-visual and computer assisted instructional media
· Assist with maintenance of the Nursing lab budget
· Assist students and faculty in utilizing patient simulators during leaning activities.
· Assist with the operation of audio/visual recording equipment.
15% Safety:
· Maintain safe laboratory environment for participating students and faculty according to industry and college standards.
· Ensure safe storage of hazardous materials and equipment (for example, sharps)
· Obtain and maintain proficiency in operating equipment in the Nursing Laboratory. Examples include, but are not limited to mannequins, mid and high-fidelity simulators, IV pumps, ventilators, patient monitoring devices, and audio/visual equipment.
· Trouble-shoot simulator and equipment problems, make minor repairs or coordinate repairs with the lab supervisor
· Provide orientation to policies procedures, location and function of equipment and supplies, and safe operation of equipment, for all participants in lab activities.
· Document continuing education related to current technical and educational practices.
10% Program support:
· Perform any additional functions necessary to carry out the activities assigned by the chairperson and/or the assistant chairperson
· Help maintain Laboratory’s bulletin board to ensure currency and appropriateness of displayed items.
· Suggest new capital equipment for utilization in the Nursing Laboratory.
Qualifications - Education
Associates of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Qualifications - Experience
· Minimum of three years experience in a hospital/and or nursing education field
· Experience working with 3G Human Patient Simulators (current technology) and related equipment and technology preferred
Qualifications - Skills
· Current, unencumbered R.N. License in NJ
· Knowledge of current standards of nursing practice
· Ability to utilize current nursing lab equipment and perform all basic nursing skills
· Good organizational skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaborate with others
· Basic computer literacy and the ability to learn and use additional applications required for the use of simulators, lab equipment and courses specific electronic resources.
· Ability to move, lift, or carry simulators, manikins, and other equipment (25 pounds)
· Ability to push and pull wheeled equipment including beds, stretchers, carts and IV poles.
