How will you make an impact in this role?
The Vendor Risk Oversight (VRO) organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all business units, functions, processes, and geographies at American Express.
The Senior Manager will report to the Director of Strategy and Reporting and have primary responsibility for assessing the efficacy of affiliate and non-affiliate third-party risk programs. The incumbent will advise business unit management on the effectiveness of vendor risk identification and controls, coordinating with risk subject matter experts across the enterprise (e.g., Compliance, Privacy, GCO) as necessary to ensure AXP practices are compliant with internal policy and external regulatory guidance. As a member of second line of defense, this role will be part of a world class team of professionals who analyze and monitor different facets of Third-Party risk to AXP.
Key Responsibilities
- Challenge efficacy of Third-Party framework design and execution through lead and support of oversight review activities.
- Conduct ongoing monitoring activities and sample-based testing, including identification and deployment of key risk indicators in coordination with the VRO Risk Analytics team.
- Facilitate team responses to exams/requests from auditor and regulatory teams (e.g., IAG, RELM).
- Assess risk data for completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
- Ensure appropriate measurement, evaluation, reporting, and governance exists for risk taking activities.
- Advance team goals and objectives, including continuous program improvements to increase efficacy.
- Develop deep and productive working relationships across multiple stakeholder groups across all lines of defense.
- Analyze large data sets to identify risk trends, leading indicators, and outlook in Third-party risk.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in risk management/audit /internal control function / similar role or relevant experience in consultancy within the Big Four or in a bank/financial institution background.
- Demonstrated aptitude executing on principles of effective operational risk management.
- Recognized risk advocate, who is a dynamic, proactive and decisive person who can translate complex or disparate content into succinct language to drive root cause course correction.
- Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to apply both quantitative methods and business skills to create insights and drive results.
- Rigorous and analytical approach to problem-solving, decision-making, and effective prioritization.
- Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating meaningful findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks.
- Ability to work independently and across a matrix organization partnering with business partners and functional owners.
- Working knowledge of OCC Heightened Standards.
- Undergraduate degree required, preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
- This role requires to be in office for 3 days/week (Hybrid).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree and/or industry recognized certifications preferred (e.g., CPA, CTPRP, CISSP).
- Experience managing or overseeing risk frameworks within a Global Systemically Important Bank (GSIB).
- Proficiency with Affiliate / Non-Affiliate Third-Party Risk Management and Regulation W.
- Understanding of interagency guidance for Third-Party Lifecycle: Risk Management.
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
